Beck’s Next Album Will Only Be Sheet Music

Beck - Song Reader

“80% awesome and 20% ridiculous.” - Andrew Sherman

Stereogum is reporting the newest effort to push boundaries concerning the perceived limitations of listener experience in music. Beck’s idea is surprisingly endearing and feels more genuine than most attempts of pop music spectacle. Sure - it lends itself to terrible, terrible covers - but even if it has 10 success stories and 10,000 duds - it’ll still be a lot of fun to see listener engagement on this level.

Song Reader is due out in December!

Fortunately for you - you’re probs not going to hear any Beck Covers from me - all I got is two turntables and a microphone and the song above requires a ukulele.

How to Cover a Cover (with margarine containers)

Sisters Lennon and Maisy are only 12 and 8, but have the musical talent of a duo way beyond their years. In 2011, Erato, a female vocal trio, covered Robyn’s single, “Call Your Girlfriend,” using just their voices and a few cups. Now, the two girls have created their own rendition of the cover using empty margarine containers (butter’s less cool younger brother). Take a look. They absolutely kill it.

Rumor has it Amy Poehler has already given them a call - too bad, Ellen DeGeneres.
